An Equine Therapeutic Riding Program
MISSION STATEMENT
Our NARHA HORSES FOR HEROES program mission is to serve veterans and active duty military who have sustained physical or psychological injuries during their time of serving our country. At no cost to the rider, the program provides therapy with horses that includes groundwork, bonding, horse care, and riding within a community of veterans and active military.
INVITATION TO RIDE
Our NARHA HORSES FOR HEROES program provides equine therapeutic riding for both male and female veterans and active military at no cost to them. No previous experience with horses is necessary.
"They have offered the ultimate sacrifice for their country and many of them have paid dearly. They don't need to pay any more,"
says Gus Jolley, Director & NARHA Certified Head Instructor. Gus is a Vietnam-Era Army veteran and is certified by the North American Riding for Handicapped Association. He has taught therapeutic riding for six years. Gus is assisted by volunteer instructors David Mead(US Navy veteran) and Felicia Fischer. Gus, David, & Felicia and their platoon of dedicated volunteers have found a way to combine their understanding of what horses give to people with their respect and appreciation for veterans and active military and what they give to our country. We invite you to check out the program and join your fellow vets on the journey of the horse, contact us today!
HISTORY
The program is based on the success of pilot programs at Ft. Hood in Texas and Ft. Myer in Virginia, where the United States Army's 3rd Infantry Regiment Caisson Platoon is headquartered. In 2007, the North American Riding for the Handicapped Association (NARHA) began working with Army personnel to develop Horses for Heroes. NARHA is the premier organization that trains instructors to work with people of all ages who have physical or psychological challenges.
